Children’s Nursing Specialties, Inc. required our nursing staff to attend one of four skills labs offered during the month of May. The skills lab is part of our annual continuing education requirement to ensure CNS nurses maintain high nursing standard practices. Evelyn and Sandra, CNS Clinical Nurse Managers, along with selected nurses from our team provided direction and feedback on Medication Administration; Passey Muir Valves; Lung & Heart Sounds; Vest CPT; Suctioning; Cough Assist; Respiratory Emergencies; Infection Control; and Professional Boundaries. We also offered assistance in how to fine tune clinical documentation. The skills lab allows Nurse Managers to assess each nurse for deficits while allowing our nurses to develop their skills and gain confidence when providing patient care. It also fosters team building and aids in maintaining professional nursing practices.
